A man has died this morning after falling from a bridge.
The A13 into Canning Town has been shut after what was originally described as a “serious accident” in Prince Regent Lane.
Emergency services were called to the street by Newham Way at 7.32am today (March 17) to reports of a man that fell.
Metropolitan Police says the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further details are given of the man at this time and enquiries are underway to identify the male.
A spokesperson said: “At this early stage the death is being treated as unexpected, but is not thought to have been suspicious. Enquiries continue.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
A scene remains in place in the area, with the underpass shut and a detour operation in place.
This morning there are severe delays in the area, with congestion to Dagenham, and stretching to Beckton and Barking.
Traffic is also queuing through Barking and East Ham.
Diversions are in place through the junction above, but there are still long delays due to the traffic lights.
