Sam Bird is keen to keep London Pulse’s winning run going when they visit Severn Stars in round 11 of 2024 Netball SuperLeague this Friday.

After narrowly coming through a close 45-43 encounter with fierce rivals Saracen Mavericks, Pulse completed another victory at the Copper Box Arena by hammering ninth-placed Team Bath 76-50 on Saturday.

It saw Pulse achieve their highest-ever home scoring victory, having put 76 past the West Country side in the away fixture in March.

“We were pleased with how we played against Saracens,” said Bird.

“We knew they would come into form to play us and that actually helped having a competitive match against them.

“The game against Team Bath gave a chance to start with Nicholé Taljaard [named in the South Africa squad for 2024]. The attack play was as good as it’s been this season especially against Team Bath with some great transition to goal.

"I’m really happy with the all the changes we made and it was great to get all 12 players on. Isla May got her debut too which was wonderful.”

A fifth straight win saw Pulse leapfrog Stars into third place after the Worcester-based outfit lost 61-46 at table-topping Manchester Thunder.

Earlier in the season the much-improved Stars came away from Stratford with a 54-47 success but Bird is gunning for revenge at University of Worcester Arena this Friday (7.30pm) in a game being shown on the BBC's red button service.

“We are looking forward to playing Stars again,” Bird added.

“They are probably the most physical side in NSL, but we are ready to take that on and continue to good form we are in. With five wins on the bounce we want to continue that form away from home.”

Defending champions Loughborough Lightning remain second in the table after beating Saracens Mavericks 68-60 and Surrey Storm, who are coached by Brentwood’s Mikki Austin, keep fifth spot with their 58-55 success at Cardiff Dragons.

Leeds Rhinos defeated bottom side Strathclyde Sirens 55-44 in Glasgow and will play Pulse in their capital showcase 'home' game at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on May 4. For tickets go to londonpulsenetball.com.
