Mary Elizabeth Todd
In Loving Memory of MARY ELIZABETH TODD - who passed away peacefully at home at 9.24 pm on Monday 30th September 2019 (aged 97) after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved Wife to Ernest, proud and loving Mother to Joyce, Ron, Brian, Valerie, Barbara & June and cherished Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. Our very special Mum will be very sadly missed by all her family and relations. Mary (often lovingly referred to as the ‘Queen Mother’) was born in 1922 and grew up in Colwyn Bay, North Wales where, during the Second World War, she was employed to make explosive shells to help the war effort. It is also where she met our beloved Dad Ernest who was stationed in Colwyn Bay. They later moved to Newham, London with their children, where she resided for the last 68 years. The family would like to thank all relatives and friends for their kind expressions of sympathy extended to them personally and for the many cards received. The family would also like to thank Debbie of Albin & Hitchcock Funeral Directors for her compassion, kindness and for the special care and attention she extended to our lovely Mum and to the family. Lastly, the children would like to acknowledge the extreme kindness and generosity of Cassandra (from Bella Sposa Bridal Boutique, Upminster) who fulfilled our Mum’s wishes to be buried in a wedding dress when she met our deceased Dad, as she, unfortunately could not afford a wedding dress when she got married in 1943. Cassandra not only allowed the family to peruse many expensive and lovely wedding dresses, she also opened a bottle of bubbly to toast our wonderful Mother’s life and memory and gifted the dress ‘free of charge’. Such a wonderful gesture. Cassandra then organised for the wedding dress to be taken to a Professional Seamstress (Mariana) in Elm Park to have ‘angel sleeves’ made for it. Mariana also did this totally free of charge. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks also to Mariana for her kindness and generosity. Our special and treasured Mum looked beautiful and would have been so pleased.
