A Plaistow man has admitted to killing his grandmother during a violent attack which took place at her home.
Phyllis Grant died on March 25 last year following the assault in which she suffered a head injury.
The 76-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after being found by police in the bedroom of her property.
Her grandson, Donovan Miller, was charged with her murder the following day.
The 31-year-old, of Kent Street, was accused of hitting the victim with a vase as part of the attack.
This morning (February 21) he pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility but denied murder.
He also admitted a third charge of sexual penetration of a corpse.
Prosecutor Caroline Carberry QC said the pleas were acceptable in light of the conclusions of three psychiatrists.
The defendant entered his pleas at the Old Bailey by video-link from custody.
Judge Anthony Leonard QC adjourned sentencing until Monday, March 28.
