A man who was arrested after a fatal stabbing in Upton Park has been released without further action.

It comes after a man in his 20s was found with stab wounds inside a car after Met Police were called at 10.11pm on Saturday (November 11) to reports of a stabbing at the junction of Victoria Avenue and Grangewood Street.

Paramedics from London Ambulance Service attended alongside officers, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation was launched by police and a man, in his 40s, was arrested in connection with the incident.

But a spokesperson for Met Police said today (November 13) that he has been released without further action.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

Ch Supt Simon Crick, in charge of policing in Newham, said that the police have contacted the dead man’s family and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

He said the force's probe will be “extremely thorough” and more officers from Met’s North East BCU will be in the Upton Park area in the coming days.

He added: “I urge local people to speak with them if they have any information or concerns.”
