A vacant building partly collapsed and damaged cars amidst Storm Henk.
Firefighters were called to Nelson Street in East Ham at around 7.27pm yesterday (January 2) to reports of the derelict building being impacted by the storm.
London Fire Brigade said part of the first-floor exterior wall fell onto the roadway and one parked car, but no injuries were sustained.
One fire engine from East Ham fire station was deployed to the scene. Fire crews worked to make the location safe for pedestrians and motorists, LFB said.
The incident was said to be over for the brigade by 7.58pm.
The AA had earlier reported today (January 3) that Nelson Street was partly closed from High Street South to Wellington Road due to debris on the road.
The road has since reopened.
A spokesperson for Newham Council revealed that a number of cars were damaged in the incident.
A structural engineer, they said, assessed the property and a contractor made it safe and secure pending further work.
The road and the pavement were said to be cleared today, with scaffolding being erected to prevent any further collapse.
The spokesperson added that work is on track to demolish the rest of the building, including additional structural support to the neighbouring property.
