A Newham-born Olympic athlete is set to hold a special storytelling session at the University of East London (UEL).
Christine Ohuruogu, an Olympic, World and Commonwealth 400m champion, is also a children's author and will read from her books and others on June 12 at 4pm at the Stratford Water Lane campus.
A fellow storyteller from the Discover Children’s Story Centre will join Ohuruogu as part of the university’s Innovation and Enterprise Summer Festival.
As a university ambassador, Ohuruogu is supporting various sports, education, and literacy programs at UEL.
She runs a university book club as part of her advocacy for young people's literacy, learning, and life skills.
The athlete has also been heavily involved in the university’s Sport in Your Futures programme.
The initiative gives under-served primary pupils the chance to engage in new sports and live sporting events.
Ohuruogu, who still lives in Newham, received an honorary doctorate in the arts from UEL in 2009.
The Innovation and Enterprise Summer Festival is a public event running from 3pm until 8pm on June 12.
The festival is free and includes a variety of science-themed activities.
Attendees can sign up for the storytelling session via the event’s booking form at app.geckoform.com/public/#/modern/21FO00ggsawgbg006o7jont4hn.
