A person has been rescued from a building after a major fire at a construction site in Canning Town. 

Crews from the London Fire Brigade were dispatched to the scene of the fire in Silvertown Way this morning (June 4) after receiving over 25 calls from members of the public. 

The fire broke out in a ground floor commercial unit of the building site consisting of ten floors.

Around 70 firefighters from stations across East Ham, Poplar, Plaistow and surrounding stations were dispatched to the scene.

The initial call was received at 8.23am and the fire was brought under control by 9.36am. 

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade has confirmed there have been no reports of other injuries at this time. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
