East Londoners are facing eye-watering rental prices, new data has revealed.
According to the latest figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), every east London borough had rental prices higher than the national average.
In March this year, the average rent price in Great Britain was £1,246, an increase of more than 9 per cent over a period of 12 months.
Even in Havering, which is the east London borough with the lowest rental prices, local people pay almost £100 more than this every month (£1,338).
Tower Hamlets had the highest prices in the region, with the average renter paying £2,185 – an increase of 13.2pc on the previous year.
The growth in rents across the country was the highest annual change since ONS first collected the data in January 2015.

- Newham - £1,680 (8.6pc)
- Waltham Forest - £1,559 (7.2pc)
- Redbridge - £1,483 (7.7pc)
- Barking and Dagenham - £1,404 (7.5pc)
- Havering - £1,338 (8.5pc)
