A man from Beckton has been sentenced to 28 years in prison after being found guilty of trying to murder his friend over a lift home.
Adam Valli, of Derifall Close, was jailed at Basildon Crown Court on September 9.
It follows an investigation into a shooting in Shoeburyness, Essex in May 2023.
Officers were called shortly after 2am on the day of the incident to Frobisher Way after witnesses reported seeing a man being shot.
At the scene, a 26-year-old man was found with a bullet wound to his leg and taken to hospital.
He said: “The pain I am suffering as a result of this injury is also a constant reminder to me of what happened that night."
On the night of the attempted murder, Valli had been at an event in London with his victim. Essex Police said the pair had been friends for years.
According to the force, the men argued over a lift home and continued their dispute over phone calls and text messages.
They came face-to-face again when Valli, 23, cut in front of the car the victim was travelling in on the A127 and shouted for him to get in.
Whilst both men were in the car, Valli pulled out a gun and threatened to take the victim outside his mother’s house and shoot him.
The pair got out of the car in Frobisher Way, with Valli continuing to hold the gun to the victim's head.
He then shot the 26-year-old in the leg.
In an attempt to change his appearance prior to his arrest, Valli shaved off his hair and beard.
Valli was found guilty of attempted murder by a jury on February 12, after a three-week trial at Basildon Crown Court.
The victim of his shooting has since undergone four operations.
The 26-year-old said: “The feelings that I had experienced since leaving the hospital have gradually become worse over time.
"I am also constantly blaming myself for everything that led up to the incident. I feel embarrassed because of how much pain I have put my family through during this time and because of this I haven’t been spending much time with them.

"I have noticed a significant changes in my family’s lives because of my injury and mental state, I feel like everyone's lives are revolving around me, and this gives me a sense of guilt.”
According to Essex Police, the victim is "lucky to be alive".
Det Insp Yoni Adler said: “The way in which Valli threatened and tormented the victim before shooting him was evil.
"Valli was someone who the victim had known for years and who he trusted.
“There is no doubt that Valli is a dangerous individual and the work of our officers has taken him off the streets.”
