Open days are being set up at four Newham schools to give parents and children a chance to explore the education facilities.

The open days for next year’s intake are at Sarah Bonnell School and Lister Community School in Stratford, and Eastlea Community School and Rokeby School in Canning Town.

Pupils will be on hand to give prospective parents a “real insight” into school life.

“Many parents unfortunately are unaware of these open days,” the schools’ marketing and communications officer Jesse Arenson explained.

“This makes the school selection process much more challenging for them.

“Getting the word out would make a significant difference for families in the area.”

Sarah Bonnell School in Deanery Road, off Water Lane, has two open days on Wednesday, September 25, from 4.30pm to 7pm, and on Friday, October 11, from 9.15 to 10.30am.

Lister Community, also in Deanery Road, has three open days, one in the evening on Monday, October 14, from 5 to 7pm, and two in the morning on Thursday and Friday, October 17 and 18, from 9.15 to 10.15am.

Eastlea Community in Pretoria Road has a Saturday open day on September 28, 10am to 12noon.

Rokeby School in Barking Road has four open days, two on Thursdays on September 19 and 26, the third on Wednesday October 9, from 3.15 to 5pm, and the fourth on Friday October 25, from 9 to 10.30am. Places can be booked on the school’s website.

Parents can explore classrooms, labs and creative spaces at the four schools that help learning and development.

They can meet the teachers and headteachers to ask questions about the curriculum, school culture and what individual support is available if needed.

The schools promote diversity and wellbeing as well as academic growth to give “the chance to excel”.

Eastlea is a comprehensive secondary that focuses on “helping every student reach their potential”.
